Ophelia wraps her secrets in the confines of her past, where a fire took her mother’s life and left her with a terrifying ability to see the dead. As a young woman she resides in the castle of Elsinore in Denmark, navigating her position as a royal advisor’s daughter, the king’s friend, and a lover of Prince Hamlet while she carries the burden of releasing ghosts from purgatory. She does this well, and has for years, but as Hamlet’s time away from Elsinore draws to a close, all Ophelia truly yearns for is to be free of the castle with its hoard of ghosts, and to be united with Hamlet forever. 

When the King of Denmark is murdered by his own brother who usurps the throne, Ophelia is forced to give Hamlet a temporary ability to see his dead father, and in doing so throws him on a path of madness and retribution that leaves her grasping to save him before he sends his soul to hell. In doing so, she learns of Claudius’s connection to her childhood fire and her mother’s passing, and realizes the only way to change the grim future is to take matters into her own hands. She claws her way through ghosts, near death, madness, and her own retribution to achieve a new desire; to bring peace back to Denmark and Hamlet, even if that means destroying both in the process.
